Kola Peninsula host different species of pines which form virtually monospecific forests over very large areas or mixed with broadleaved trees.

Pine trees are evergreen, possess needles 2-8 cm long and 2-5 needles in fascicle.

Pines grow almost around all Kola Peninsula excluding the north and east coast.

The Pinewood on east from Murmansk called «lungs of city» for produce oxygen all the year round.

Pinewood near a Kilpyavr (kilp — antler, yavr — lake, saam.) grow as far north as 69°9' and is a northernmost not only in Russia but in whole world.
